Halloween is an easy holiday for cupcake themes because of the many costumes and monsters associated with the holiday. You can make cupcakes that look like witches, mummies, Frankenstein monsters, even spiders. If you are hosting a large party, consider creating an assortment of cupcake creations to add to the fun. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Mummy Face Cupcakes

    • The mummy cupcake is one of the easier Halloween cupcakes to create. You will need 1 dozen chocolate cupcakes, 2 cups chocolate frosting, 1 cup white frosting, 1/4 cup red frosting, and 1/4 cup black frosting. Frost the cupcakes with the chocolate frosting. Try to spread the frosting as smooth as possible. Use a basket-weave tip to pipe the white frosting in bandage-like strips across the cupcake. Use the red frosting to pipe medium red dots then two small black dots in the center of the red as eyes.

    Frankenstein's Creature Cupcakes

    • A Frankenstein cupcake takes a little more effort but is perfect for all of your mad scientist guests. You will need 1 dozen cupcakes (any flavor), 2 cups white frosting, green spray frosting, 1 dozen large marshmallows, 1 dozen mini pretzel sticks (broken in half) and 1/2 cup black frosting. First, frost the cupcakes and spray them green. Spray each marshmallow with the green icing; this will be the monster's head. Press two pretzel halves into opposite sides of the marshmallow to look like neck bolts. Place the marshmallow on the center of the cupcake. Using a small round tip, add the black frosting to create eyes, a mouth and crazy hair.

"Ding Dong, the Witch is Dead" Cupcakes

    • This "Wizard of Oz"-inspired cupcake is labor-intensive, yet unforgettable at any Halloween party. The ingredients are 1 dozen of any flavor cupcakes, 2 cups white frosting, 1/8 cup yellow frosting, 1/2 cup black marzipan, 2 dozen mini peppermint sticks and some shredded coconut dyed green with food coloring. Frost the cupcakes and set them aside. First, shape the marzipan around one end of each peppermint stick to make witch's boots, then pipe a small strip of yellow frosting on each boot to make a buckle. Sprinkle the cupcakes with the coconut to make them look like grassy mounds. Finally, stick two witch legs into each cupcake, boots pointing up. The wicked witch is dead!

    Spider Cupcakes

    • Creepy crawly bugs are a must on Halloween. For these spider cupcakes you will need 2 dozen cupcakes (any flavor), 1 pound black shoestring licorice, 1 can black frosting, 48 pieces of candy corn, 48 red-hot candies and 1/4 cup orange sugar. Frost the cupcakes and stick two pieces of candy corn at the bottom of each cupcake to look like fangs. Cut the licorice in pieces to use as legs and stick eight pieces (four on each side) in the cupcakes for spider legs. Place two red-hot candies near the top of each cupcake as eyes, and end by sprinkling the orange sugar over the top of each cupcake.
