The Dangers of High Heels
Many women enjoy wearing high heels because they find the shoes to be fashionable and sexy. Unfortunately, these shoes may also pose dangers that women do not realize. Rather than wearing high heels each day, ladies should wear the heels in moderation. By wearing the high heels less often, women will give their feet, legs and backs time to recover from high-heel usage.

Foot Injuries
-
Women who frequently wear high heels often experience foot pain. Though they may look stylish, high heels can be dangerous to a woman's feet. Women who wear high heels have an increased occurrence of bunions and calluses and may need surgery for their removal. In addition, women may develop hammer toe: a condition in which toes become deformed due to the pointed design of most high-heel shoes.
Posture Problems
-
When wearing heels, the arch of a woman's back becomes more pronounced. This arching throws off a woman's natural posture, and it can lead to backaches and spine injuries. High heels push the spine out of its natural alignment, and the lower back muscles become strained. When the spinal nerves become pinched, some women report feeling numbness and tingling.

Increased Risk of Accidents
-
Some women cannot walk well in high heels, and it is easy for them to lose their footing and accidentally fall while wearing these shoes. Women can sustain sprained or broken ankles as a result of their falls. If it is raining, women often find that they must be extra careful not to slip while wearing high-heeled shoes.
Toenail Torture
-
Because high heels are often designed in a pointed fashion near the toe, women can experience a variety of toe and toenail issues. In-grown toenails are common in women who wear high heels often, and to correct the in-grown nail, surgery may be required. Frequent use of high heels can also lead to nail infections that are painful and unattractive.
