Medicaid is a federally funded health insurance program that provides coverage to individuals and families in financial need.   1. Eligibility Groups

Pregnant women and infants cannot exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Children up to age 19 are limited to 133 percent. To qualify for the FamilyCare program, which covers parents and children, the income limit is 185 percent. A monthly premium and small copays will be assessed. SSI recipients are automatically eligible.

    • Along with your Medicaid application, you will need to provide proof of citizenship, identity and income. To verify citizenship and identity, you can submit a certified birth certificate, driver's license or government-issued identification card, Social Security card, U.S. passport or naturalization documents. If you are an illegal alien or cannot provide adequate documentation to support citizenship, you may only qualify for limited Medicaid in the event of an emergency. Recent pay stubs or earnings statements, bank accounts and financial affidavits will be required for the entire household.
