For a party group that loves dress-up and makeup, make a cake in the shape of a makeup bag and hollow out a little bit of the top. Fill the hollowed-out section with real or fondant lipstick, lip-gloss and eye shadow containers. For a group who loves jewelry more than makeup, make a jewelry box cake with an opened graham cracker lid. Hollow out sections of the cake to add candy necklaces, bracelets and rings.
For a spa-themed birthday party, make a rectangular cake and decorate it with the party's colors. Add an oval-shaped cake on top, decorated to look like a face receiving a facial. Surround the face with real or fondant beauty masks, nail lacquers and lotions.

Make a birthday cake in the shape of a fairy tale castle for a party group who loves pretend play. If the party's theme is based upon a favorite musician or pop star, find a picture of the star, have the image transferred onto edible frosting paper and apply the image to the cake. Other music-themed cake ideas include a cake decorated to look like a music player or music notes. For a batch of single-serving cakes, make small round cakes and decorate each to look like a CD, covered with gold luster dust.

For a sports-themed birthday party, make a multi-tier cake and decorate it with equipment from a variety of sports. Cover the two or three-tier cake in icing colors that coordinate with the party's color scheme and top the cake with a baseball cap made from fondant. Bake an oval cake and decorate it to look like a football and lean it against the bottom tier of the cake. Add other store-bought or edible sports-related items, such as baseballs, basketballs and football helmets. For a party group with a favorite sports team, make a cake in the shape of a jersey and decorate the cake with the team's colors and fondant cutouts shaped like the team's emblems.
