Brand of Strings
-
Vaughan has an exclusive licensing deal with guitar string company D'Addario & Company. D'Addario & Company makes strings for musical instruments under the D'Addario brand and is a major producer of musical instrument accessories. D'Addario & Company is well-known for its environmental credentials; it was the first company to reduce packaging and focus on nontoxic and recyclable materials.
Construction Type of Strings
-
Vaughan uses flat wound strings on his guitars exclusively, according to a video interview with him available from D'Addario. Flat wound strings are manufactured with a flat surface wire wound around the central core. Flat wound strings give a smoother, less-abrasive sound since their flattened, polished surfaces have less friction with your fretting fingers.

String Gauges
-
Vaughan was quoted in an interview with Guitar Player magazine, in September 2006, as saying he uses 0.012 gauge strings. In the interview he said those were his choice because "flatwounds give the front end of the note more pop, and that notes decay smoother than they do with roundwound strings."
