What Does it Take to Be Successful at a Work-at-Home Job?
Working from home is the dream of millions of Americans across the nation. The flexibility of working from home on your own schedule can be very rewarding. However, the rewards of working from home can be greatly diminished if procrastination sets in, or if family life takes over the home office. Successfully working at home requires a balance of motivation, initiative and work ethic, while also taking time out for your family.

Define Your Workspace
-
It's hard to work in the living room with the TV blaring and kids screaming while your wife rattles dishes in the kitchen. Dedicate a room in your home where you only do work. If you don't have an extra room, put a computer desk in your bedroom and deem the room off-limits during your work hours. Ideally, you'll want an area with no distractions. Politely let your family know that while you are working you need to be left alone.
Stick to a Schedule
-
Start your work everyday at the same time if possible. Just because you work from home does not mean that it's going to be a vacation. Working whenever you feel like it will most likely result in less and less work getting done throughout the day, until working eventually stops completely. Self-discipline and motivation will determine the success of your business.

A 9-to-5 Job
-
While it's easy to start your day in pajamas and without breakfast, it's not recommended. Doing work in this way will make it easier for you to decide to take the day off or finish working earlier than you should. Working in this way also makes the quality of work you do get done suffer. Treat working from home like you would working in an office. Get up at the same time every day, take a shower, get dressed, eat breakfast and go to work. Keeping routines every day will help you become a more productive worker.
Make Family Time
-
Working from home makes it easy to lose track of time and overwork. Overwork too much and your family will suffer for it. It's best to balance your work time and family time with the same schedule everyday. Make it a habit to eat breakfast and dinner with your family. Defined times of starting and ending work will help your family know when they can spend time with you and when they shouldn't disturb you. A balanced work and family life will lead to a happier, healthier life overall.
