What Nails Fit a Bostitch BT200K-2?
The Bostitch BT200K-2 nail gun drives nails into wood or metal with compressed gas. A nail gun gives a carpenter the ability to drive thousands of nails a day. The Bostitch BT200K-2 is designed for finish carpentry. It uses small nails for applications in which the driven nail should be unobtrusive. Does this Spark an idea?

How It Works
-
The carpenter presses the nail gun on the spot where he wants the nail to go. A built-in safety designed to make sure the head of the nail gun is resting on the surface of the material being nailed disengages, and the carpenter pulls the trigger on the gun. Compressed air suddenly released by the trigger slams into a metal plunger which moves down against the nail, pushing it into the wood. The compressed air is released as soon as the plunger hits the bottom. There is a spring on the plunger that pushes it back into position. The nail gun brings another nail into position, and the cycle begins again.
Nails Come in Different Packages
-
Nail guns use nails strung together in short strips or long coils. A strip usually holds about 100 nails. A coil contains 100 to 300. Carpenters who are doing work that doesn't require a lot of detail, such as constructing interior supports or attaching plywood to a floor, want to throw a lot of nails into the wood in a short time. They use a heavy-duty nail gun with a big coil of nails. Bostitch built the BT200K-2 for close, finish work done with small nails. It uses a stick of 100 nails.

What Size Is a Nail?
-
Nails are given a size number according to the thickness of the wire from which they're made. The Bostitch BT200K-2 uses nails made from 18-gauge wire which is 0.0475 inches wide and from 5/8ths of an inch to 2 inches long. The nails used by the BT200K-2 are called brad nails. They have smaller heads than other nails so they won't be noticed in the wood.
Other Characteristics of the Bostitch BT200K-2
-
The BT200K-2 is 10.13 inches long, 9.5 inches high and 2.31 inches wide. It weighs 2.1 pounds because of its lightweight magnesium alloy construction. It drives the nails with 170 pounds per square inch of pressure. Bostitch states that the nail gun requires no regular maintenance because it is oil-free. Bostitch designed it with a rear exhaust for the spent compressed air which is more comfortable for users because it doesn't blow on them. The nail gun comes with an adjustable depth guide. The kit that the Bostitch BT200K-2 comes with includes the nailer, 1,000 2-inch brad nails, a carrying case and hex wrench.
