Ideas for Arch Windows
For many homeowners, the architectural details of arched windows add an elegant look to a room that standard rectangular windows do not. However, there may be challenges when decorating a room with an arched window because of its shape. Depending on the look you want and the amount of light you want to let into the room, there are several ways to cover arched windows that allow them to work with the rest of the elements in the room while still highlighting their architectural details. Does this Spark an idea?

Sash Curtain
-
A simple way to cover arched windows is to hang a standard sash curtain over the rectangular portion of the window and leave the arch exposed. A curtain rod may be installed at the top of the window's rectangular section, but ensure that the curtain hangs so it is positioned proportionally to the window's arch. When selecting a curtain for the window, opt for a translucent or sheer material so the architecture of the arched window is still visible through the curtain.
Sunburst Curtain
-
In some rooms, you may find that hanging a sash curtain by itself allows too much light to pass through the arched portion of the window. You can opt to cover the arched portion of window with a panel of shirred fabric that is gathered together in the center of the arched area so a sunburst is formed. Many sunburst curtains for arched windows feature a rosette in the center for an added decorative touch. Placing this type of covering over your arched window blocks the sun and prevents a glare in the room. If you want a uniform look for your window, choose the same material for your sash and sunburst curtain. However, for a bolder look you may opt for a contrast with a white sunburst and colorful sash curtain. You can create your own sunburst with a kit or have one custom-made to fit your window's dimensions.

Arch Shutters
-
Similar to a sunburst curtain, arch shutters are a wooden or vinyl piece that fits over the top portion of an arched window. The shutter resembles a sunburst like the curtain but tends to have a more formal feel. In addition, arch shutters are operable because they are formed by louvers that may be adjusted to allow light into the room when desired. Sunburst curtains, on the other hand, do not allow for such adjustments. Arch shutters may be paired with sash curtains, blinds or shades so the entire window is covered.
Fabric Shades
-
Another option for covering an arched window is fabric shades. Like arch shutters, fabric shades are operable. However, the shades fold down completely so a full view outside the window is provided. Typically, these shades open in the center and feature accordion-style folds so they collapse easily. Like arch shutters, fabric shades may be paired with curtains, shades or blinds. These arch shades are ideal if you do not want to go to the trouble of having a custom treatment made for your arched windows because fabric shades do not have to fit the arch perfectly.
