Baking Flash Games

Baking isn't limited to just the kitchen. Clever game designers have used Flash software to produce a range of baking games that would-be chefs can play over the Internet for free, using their Web browsers. These games vary in their content, but most aim to be realistic, so players will create virtual food following the steps taken in real baking. Players may need to install an up-to-date version of Flash technology first.

  1. Cakes

    • Some baking games task players with making cakes. Educational title "Magic Baking" is part game and part cake making tutorial. Players follow the on-screen instructions and interact with a range of equipment and ingredients, taking them through the stages necessary to produce a cake. For example, the player begins by weighing the appropriate amount of flour, using the mouse to control the baking process. "Chocolate Cake" is another tutorial-based game; players point and click on the items arranged around the kitchen table to complete the given instructions. Again, the mouse is used to control the action.

    Cookies

    • Baking games sometimes focus on creating different varieties of cookies. In "Valentine's Day," the player gets to choose the color, form and decorations on a batch of cookies being created for the annual celebration of lovers. The player chooses the shape of the cookies by selecting a tray, then picks the coloring before arranging cherries and other additions on top. When she's finished, the player puts the cookies in the microwave and starts the next batch. "Fantastic Chef: Oatmeal Raisin Cookies" takes places across a whole kitchen; players use the left and right arrows on-screen to browse the kitchen and utilize food items stored in the pantry as they use the various equipment dotted around. Players follow a recipe to bake oatmeal raisin cookies by selecting the appropriate ingredients and equipment found in the kitchen.

    Pies

    • Some baking games focus on making pies. "Baking Sweet Apple Pie," for example, instructs players on how to follow the recipe presented at the game's beginning, with on-screen guidelines and arrows to guide the player around a virtual kitchen. "Cooking Apple Pie" is an equally simple title. Players simply click on the ingredient or kitchen tool indicated by the on-screen arrow, and the game does the rest, placing the item in the appropriate position.

    Miscellaneous

    • Some baking games let players cook up other types of recipes. "Bread Pizza" is one such title; the player must navigate around a virtual kitchen table using the mouse, following the on-screen advice and completing tasks such as buttering bread, dicing onions and spreading tomato sauce, before placing the food in the oven to bake.
