Q-Tip Snowflake Crafts
Q-tips are not just for cleaning and personal hygiene. These inexpensive and useful household items can be used to create crafts for decorating during the winter months. Christmas ornaments, winter window decorations and jewelry can all be created with Q-tips and a minimal amount of other materials.

Creating the Snowflake
-
Place a piece of construction paper on your work space. Take eight Q-tips and cut four of them into different sizes, cutting off the ends and discarding the center pieces or cutting the Q-tip in half. Lay two of the whole Q-tips on top of one another at the center perpendicular to one another on the construction paper. Lay the other two Q-tips in a similar fashion over the first two Q-tips until you have the style of snowflake you desire. Glue your Q-tips to the construction paper. Place the cut Q-tips along the edges of your snowflake for a more detailed craft. Glue these pieces to the construction paper when you are satisfied with your snowflake. Once the glue has dried, cut a circle in the construction paper around your snowflake.
For a glittery variation of your snowflake, dip the ends of the Q-tip into silver or gold glitter glue before placing onto the construction paper. (See Reference 2)
Christmas Tree Ornaments
-
Punch a hole through the top of the construction paper with a hole punch. With a brightly colored string of ribbon or yarn, run the ribbon or yarn through the hole and tie loose ends into a festive bow leaving a space between the ornament and the bow to place your snowflake on a Christmas tree. You may choose to place your craft into an ornament frame to protect your project for many Christmas seasons.

Window Decor
-
Your snowflake craft can be used as window art for a personalized winter window scene. Punch a hole into the top of the construction paper and string yarn or ribbon through the hole. Run your yarn or ribbon through the backside clasp of a small, plastic suction cup. Tie the ends of the yarn or ribbon into a decorative bow. Push the suction cup onto the inside of a window in your home and allow the snowflake project to dangle from the cup. For a more dramatic winter scene, spray window frosting around your displayed project to mimic a snow glaze on your window.
Snowflake Necklace
-
Your snowflake project can also be turned into a seasonal piece of jewelry. Punch a hole in the top of your construction paper and run a long piece of yarn or ribbon through the hole. Allow enough space in the necklace to fit around a person's head. Tie the loose ends of the yarn or ribbon into a tight knot for a crafty winter necklace.
