Tips & Tricks on MS Access & Report Writing
Many businesses rely heavily on a database. A generic form of database used often is MS Access. It makes the creation of reports a highly automated process. Many users and administrators have been frustrated by database use and management, despite the ability to create real-time reports and several other programming involved in databases. Tips and tricks on MS Access and report writing can be helpful.

Make a Backup
-
In MS Access, a database backup can be made because of the autosave feature. Since a database can be used by more than one user at a time, it is critical that records be kept up-to-date. Every time a record is made, a unique ID number is assigned to that item and cannot be reassigned. When using a template, always make a backup as the first thing to do or the template will be permanently changed the first time data is inputted.
Understand Relationships and Unique ID Number
-
The purpose of a database is to form relationships between tables of data. The customer's information and the transaction information are part of two different tables. But with Access, it is possible to develop proper relationships, using the unique ID number of the customer with the unique ID number of the transaction. The trick on MS Access and report writing is to always have "cascading relationships". This will allow the program to check for the validity of a query based on all relationships. Otherwise, the reports will produce inaccurate data with duplicates.

Creating Reports with Wizard
-
By using the "Reports" ribbon at the top of the screen, the "Report Wizard" button can be located. Selecting this button becomes possible to make a report in a manner of seconds. The few questions are important to understand, but most importantly is the format of the report one is trying to create. Once a report is created, always check all views by right-clicking the report tab. This will allow the adjustment of cells to match the size of the records, and gives the ability to add or remove any data necessary.
