For some people, a bedroom is just a place to sleep at night. But for many others, it is a sanctuary where they can go to read, watch TV, think and relax. With so many bedroom themes to choose from, you may just decide to redecorate every bedroom in your home. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Themes for Adults

    • An ideal master bedroom should suit your personal style as well as your spouse's. If bright colors are what you like, try a citrus theme. Paint the walls a bright orange, lime green or yellow color. White furniture works well with these colors and makes the walls pop even more. Bedding and window treatments with images of fruit or flowers complete the theme.

If a bright bedroom is not your idea of relaxing, go with a sophisticated Moroccan theme. Paint the walls a rich and bold color such as orange, gold, purple or red. Dark wood, hand painted and wrought iron furniture fit this theme well. Choose bedding with bold colors, mosaics, tile designs, jewels and silk, Don't forget the Moroccan-inspired accents such as a lace and gauzy canopy, large mirror, Oriental rug and ornate lanterns.

    Theme for Boys

    • Use your son's interests as inspiration for his bedroom's theme. If he loves sports, make his favorite team the theme of his bedroom. Paint his walls the teams two colors or use sports-themed wallpaper. Furnish the room in sleek black furniture and include shelves to display sports memorabilia. Hang a framed picture over his bed of the team, their logo or his favorite player. Include additional furniture and accent pieces such as a basketball-shaped lamp or beanbag chair, surfing board headboard, pegboard for baseball caps and a small locker for extra storage.

    Themes for Girls

    • Your daughter's bedroom is a place where she can truly express her personality. Invite her to help with the redesign of her bedroom to be sure she loves her new theme. Make her favorite color the theme of her bedroom, such as a pretty in purple theme. Paint the walls two different shades of purple or use purple floral wallpaper. Furnish the room with white furniture and a daybed or canopy bed. Choose bedding that is purple and another color such as white, pink, red or orange.

If purple is too cliche, try a picnic theme. Paint the walls a neutral color such as white, cream or tan. Furnish the room with rich wood or log furniture. Choose bedding and area rugs that are red and window treatments and throw pillows that have red and white checks.

    Themes for Babies

    • Although your baby can't truly appreciate his bedroom's theme now, if you choose a modern theme he will be able to enjoy it when he is older as well. Give him a shape and color theme. Paint his walls alternating shades of blue and accent them with a series of large blue, black and white circles. Furnish the room with furniture and a crib that is either black or white. Include bedding and window treatments that are blue, black and white with coordinating circles or stripes.

For a baby girl, replace the shades of blue with shades of pink or purple. If you are not sure of your baby's gender or want a gender neutral room, use shades of green or pastel oranges and yellows instead of pink or blue.
