What Problems Happen When Gambling
Gambling can be an enjoyable pastime for many people, but like many other things, when done excessively it can become a problem. Gambling is the practice of betting on the outcome of a game, roll of a dice, or spin of wheel, but people can gamble on many different things. The aim of gambling is to win money, but the pursuit of this can cause many other problems in life that should be addressed.

Money
-
The most evident problem that can occur while gambling is the loss of money. Not only do the games that people gamble on often not go the way the gambler assumed they would, problem gamblers also have a tendency to try to "chase" a bet. This means that if they lose, they will place a larger bet, or another bet on the same thing to try to win their money back. If you are betting on red at roulette, for instance, because black has come out three times in a row, if black comes out again, you may be even more inclined to think it will be red next time. Unfortunately, this can lead to a lot of lost money, and people with gambling problems will also bet money that they can't really afford to lose.
Family Life
-
If somebody has a real gambling problem, he will neglect his family life in favor of his addiction. Even though he is physically present, he may spend all of his time playing online poker, for example, and not paying attention to his loved ones. A study conducted in Norway found that families with a problem gambler experience 50 percent more conflict than an average family. There have also been studies conducted that suggest that gamblers are more likely to be involved in domestic assault and that their children can be affected.

Work Life
-
Gambling can negatively affect one's career, no matter what it is. If somebody focuses on gambling instead of work, it can impede his career growth. Real problem gamblers may also not show up to work because of their habit. They may have spent a long night at the casino, and either sleep in too late or be too tired to function properly at work.
Personal Issues
-
Gambling can also cause many personal issues for the gambler. These can be as simple as lack of sleep or malnourishment, or more complicated mental issues. A gambler may use betting as a way to avoid the problems he faces in his personal life. Gambling can also foster irrational belief systems that bear no resemblance to real life. For example, a gambler can easily believe that "8" is his lucky number, and that wearing a certain item of clothing or performing a ritual will bring him luck.
