Reading comprehension continues to be an area where high school students need reinforcement. This is especially true as they get closer to college aptitude testing like the ACT or the SAT. Reading in the ninth grade should focus on reading for both information and context. Use games that have sections of text to read and questions that follow. Also look for games that feature some of the great works of literature students will be focusing on in their English classes. There are many free online games for both the ACT and the SAT. These games are a good option for reading practice since they zero in on the types of questions that are asked on each of the tests.
Writing Games
-
Writing games are a great way for ninth grade students to improve their overall writing skills. Since there is a writing component for both the ACT and the SAT, every opportunity to enhance this skill can mean better scores on both tests. Writing games should cover choosing the best sentence, order of ideas in paragraphs and main idea and supporting detail identification.
