Can I Burn CDs on My MacBook?
You might have music files on your MacBook that you would like to listen to on a CD player or on a device that can play MP3 CDs. You might also have files on the MacBook that you want to back up to a disc. You can easily burn CDs using software that comes installed on your MacBook.

Apple's MacBook has a 13.3-inch diagonal LED screen, 2 to 4 GB of RAM, a 250 GB hard drive (expandable to 500 GB), a built-in camera for shooting pictures and videos, and a SuperDrive optical disc drive that reads and writes CDs and DVDs. It weighs 4.7 pounds and measures about 13 inches by 9 inches by 1 inch. The MacBook has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for wireless access to the Internet. The rechargeable battery provides up to seven hours of use. As of early 2011, Apple also offers three MacBook Pro models with screens ranging from 13 inches to 17 inches, and two MacBook Air models, which use solid-state memory instead of hard drives and have no optical drive for burning discs.

A compact disc holds 700 MB. You can burn up to 74 minutes of music on an audio CD from music files to play in a CD player. You can also burn files to a CD to back them up or transfer them to another computer. A CD burner uses laser light to burn patterns on the disc, which are translated into music or data when they are read by a CD player or a computer with an optical drive.

Burn with iTunes

You can burn an audio CD from the music in your iTunes library. Launch iTunes, and then select a playlist. Click "File," and then click "Burn Playlist to Disc." Click "Audio CD" if you want to burn the music as an audio CD, click "MP3 CD" to burn an MP3 CD, or click "Data CD or DVD" to burn the disc as a data CD, which you can play with a computer but may not be able to play in some MP3 CD players. Click "Burn" to burn the CD, and then insert a blank disc. The application will burn a CD of your music.
Burn with iPhoto

Launch iPhoto if you want to burn a CD of photos with your MacBook. Click on a photo album to select it. Click "Share," and then click "Burn" You will be prompted to insert a blank CD. Insert the CD into the MacBook's optical drive, and then click "OK." The iPhoto application will burn a CD of your photos. Use this method to burn a photo CD to use with iPhoto. If you want to back up photos to a CD that you might use on other computers, use a Burn Folder to burn them.
Burn with a Burn Folder

Click "File," and then click "New Burn Folder" to create a burn folder inside a folder or on the desktop of your MacBook. Drag files into the burn folder. This will not move the files, but will create aliases of them inside the burn folder. Double-click on the burn folder to open it. Click on the "Burn" button. Type a name for the CD, and then insert a blank CD into the optical drive of the MacBook. Click "Burn" to burn a CD of your files.
