Most people on planet Earth have heard of the common animal and hero mascots. For the organizations that seek out a mascot that makes a unusual statement, something run-of-the-mill just won't do. Consider your organization and your target audience. Decide if you want the mascot to have a sense of humor or to be serious. Choose a mascot that won't offend any race or ethnicity and one that won't frighten young children.

Birds make positive mascots for organizations. The eagle is ranked number one as the most common mascot, according to Mascotdb Online. Its site features a database that researches 39,502 past and current mascot names. Other organization mascot bird names are Seahawks, Cardinals, Falcons and Blue Jays. If a bird suits your organization, choose a bird that represents your state or an ideal that your organization is trying to represent. For example, a sports team may choose a bird of prey, where a garden club organization may choose blue jays or cardinals.
