Green jobs are jobs that are focused on the emerging fields of the environmental industry. These are jobs for people who want to work in various environmental fields such as sustainable energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy. They will be dealing with the improvement of the environment, whether it is to decrease energy consumption without compromising efficiency, eliminate pollution and preserve and maintain of natural resources. A look at some of the aspects of green jobs will paint a clearer picture of what they are all about.

    • Green jobs, or "green-collar" jobs, are those that work for the environment. According to Phil Angelides, a leader in environmental campaigns, a green job is one that has wages and pay benefits that can support a family and at the same time be able to help nature by reducing waste or contributing to the improvement of environment. It must be a real career path and not just some advocacy.

    Subcategories of Green Jobs

    • Green jobs are vast and concerned with many fields. Thus, these jobs are subcategorized into more specific titles and positions. For example, a field coordinator for lighting products is the one responsible for supporting efficiency programs. A senior green editor conducts energy audits and researches for potential energy-saving programs. Green researchers and writers are responsible for writing about the environment as well as conducting researches and sharing the information to the public to expand content primarily through the Internet.

    Salary of Green Jobs

    • Green jobs have varying salaries depending on which subcategory you are under and what position you hold. A research conducted by GreenBiz titled "GreenBiz Salary Survey 2010" stated that green job employees are mostly satisfied with their benefits and wages. Research also found out that there is an increase of employment in green jobs. Employees in high positions are found to be satisfied with their salaries and have an optimistic view on the sustainability of their job.

    Kinds of Green Jobs

    • An example of a green job a person may go into is farming. Farming requires organic methods rather than usage of petroleum. Forestry is also another green job that is emerging. According to the World Bank, 1.6 billion people depend on forest livelihood. These foresters can teach locals livelihood programs such as planting fast-growing fruits, medicine, timber and more. Slow power installer is yet another job in the world of green jobs. These people are the ones installing water thermal heaters and rooftop photovoltaic cells.
