Read fortunes for yourself or another with a divination tool.

The lights are dimmed, a candle is lit and you are prepared to gaze into your future, the unknown. To help you focus your mind and foretell future events, include a divination tool in your magical workings. There are different types of fortunetelling tools available that can assist and guide you in your questions. It is important to explore your options and choose a fortunetelling tool that speaks to you.

  1. Tarot Cards

    • You can read fortunes with a deck of Tarot cards, which consists of 78 cards divided into two sections: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana contains 22 cards that represent significant events in a person's life. The Minor Arcana has 56 cards that symbolize the everyday details in a person's life. The Minor Arcana is divided into four suits: cups, pentacles, swords and wands. To use Tarot cards, focus on a question, shuffle the deck and choose a card. You can also perform a Tarot card layout to read the cards.

    Pendulums

    • Another fortunetelling tool includes the pendulum. A pendulum is a string with a quartz crystal or ring attached at its bottom. You can use a pendulum to answer yes or no questions by observing the rotation or movement of the crystal. To use, hold the pendulum in your hand and ask a specific question. If the pendulum spins counterclockwise, the answer is negative. If the pendulum spins clockwise, the answer is positive.

    Crystal Balls

    • You can learn to scry, or see into the past, present and future, with a crystal ball. To use a crystal ball for scrying, first dim the lights, light a candle and enter into a meditative state. Focus on a specific question as you gaze into the crystal ball and wait for a clear vision to form in the cloudy crystal before you. Besides crystal balls, you can also use mirrors, candle flames or pools of water to gaze into the future.

    Runes

    • You can divine the future by using runes, or ancient symbols used by Germanic tribes for spiritual and magical workings. The word rune means "secret" or "mystery." Runes typically consist of about two dozen symbols painted or etched onto clay, stone or wooden pellets. You may want to explore different methods of divining with runes. For example, you can choose one rune to read or you can lay out the runes in different patterns or spreads, like Tarot cards.
