Texas Architecture Scholarships
Over half of Texas college students graduated with some debt, according to the Project on Student Debt. The project further found that the average student loan debt for Texas stood at $20,015 for the class of 2009. Fortunately, there are a wide variety of scholarships in Texas that offer money for college students who do not have to pay it back. Some of these are specific to certain majors, and there are literally dozens of Texas architecture scholarships.

Texas Society of Architects
-
The Texas Society of Architects has an extensive scholarship program for aspiring architects. These scholarships are available for students at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Scholarships are generally awarded by region or school, but with a bit of hunting you may find a few scholarships from the TSA that you are eligible for. You must be attending an accredited architecture program to be eligible for any, and all applications should be made through the dean of your architecture program.
Dallas Center for Architecture
-
Another professional organization offering Texas architecture scholarships is the Dallas Center for Architecture. The organization primarily offers fellowships for traveling students, but there are also scholarships and grants for more traditional architecture students. Omniplan, Inc. offers a scholarship of $2,000 as of March 2011 to graduate architecture students at the University of Texas at Arlington through the DCA. Minority students in Texas are eligible for the Minority Architect Scholarship. The United Masonry Contractors Association Scholarship is for architecture students interested in masonry who graduated from a high school in North Texas.

Need-Based Scholarships
-
Need-based scholarships still require you to maintain an acceptable GPA and progress toward a degree, but emphasize your financial state over your academic performance. The American Architectural Foundation offers scholarships of up to $2,500 for students with demonstrated financial need. Several of the scholarships provided by the Texas Society of Architects are need-based, such as the George Harrell II Scholarship, which is available to all architecture students throughout the state.
Minority Scholarships
-
The American Architectural Foundation Scholarship for $2,500 is also available for minority students. While not for minority students per se, the Texas Registered Accessibility Specialist Association offers a scholarship in the amount of $1,500 as of March 2011 for architecture students interested in increasing building access for Texans with limited mobility. The Tyler J. Viney Memorial Scholarship offered through the Texas Society of Architects places a priority on minority and female students.
