Pablo Picasso created five paintings in 1928.

Pablo Picasso was born on October 25, 1881, in Malaga, Spain. He lived until April 8, 1973, when he passed away in Mougins, France. At age 16, after attending the Madrid Academy of Fine Arts, Picasso felt he was not improving in his art career with a formal classic art education. Picasso became known as the the boy-genius who had grown disinterested in classical art. This is where his passion for abstract art began, which led to the creation of five pieces of art in 1928.

  1. "Le Paintre et Son Modèle"

    • This title is French for "the painter and his model." This painting measures 51 x 64 inches and was created with oil paint on canvas material. Using a lot of squares, rectangles and right angles, Picasso's work depicts a painter painting a three-eyed model. This work also contains noticeably few colors compared to Picasso's other paintings and is roughly half in black-and-white shades.

    "Paysage"

    • The English translation for this painting's title is "landscape." Pablo Picasso completed this work on July 28, 1928. This painting is 20 x 31 inches and was painted using oil paint on canvas. It depicts an unknown landscape that contains both houses and greenery. The houses in this work were painted without any frame or walls; Picasso only painted the windows and roofs. This painting contains a lot of empty white space.

    "Sur la Plage"

    • "On the Beach" as it's known in English is a smaller oil painting, measuring only 7.8 x 14 inches. This painting was created on canvas and uses a wide variety of colors and shapes. The painting is entirely colored in and leaves no empty or white space. It depicts people with long limbs and necks playing on a beach. The painting is set at sundown.

    "Baigneuse"

    • This painting was completed on 15 August, 1928. It measures 9.4 x 13.7 inches. As with most of Picasso's creations, it was painted on canvas. "Swimmer," as it is titled, shows a person with extremely long limbs on a beach. This person is holding the bright sun in his hands. The person is also physically deformed: His right leg connects with his right arm whereas his left leg starts at his torso.

    "Personnage et profil"

    • Three eyes and a nose is what Picasso gave the creature in his painting "Personality and Profile." This painting shows a see-through person examining a painting of a three-eyed creature that is on display. The creature was created with few features--only legs, a head, three eyes, hair and two nostrils. Measuring 28 x 23 inches, this oil painting uses few colors and, with the exception of the human face and creature, contains a lot of straight lines and right angles.
