Gifts that celebrate the Hindu culture and religion can be good baby gift options.

Gift giving for babies can be challenging no matter what the situation, as everyone wants to give a present that is both special and unique. Making sure to take into the consideration the religious and cultural beliefs of the parents is important when the child comes from a culture that has very strict and defined axioms. In the Hindu culture, baby gifts are given not just when a child is born but also during the 7th month of pregnancy when the mother-to-be is honored in a celebration called godh bharai.

  1. Money

    • Money remains an acceptable baby gift for just about any culture. Monetary gifts can be made in the form of cash or check. For Hindu babies and parents not living in their native country, one way to make the gift even more special is to give the money in the native currency of where the family comes from. For those hailing from India, giving the baby a gift comprised of Indian rupees can help make the gift even more personal to the family.

    Jewelry

    • Jewelry is a traditional part of Indian and Hindu culture, with both men and women wearing pieces such as rings, necklaces and bracelets. One gift option for a Hindu baby is a religious or Hindu-inspired piece of jewelry that can be worn once the baby has grown up. This type of an everlasting gift should be made from high-quality metal such as pure gold. If the jewelry contains stones, consider gemstones such as emeralds, rubies or even diamonds.

    Clothing

    • Clothing is always a good baby gift choice. For Hindu babies, clothing can be anything from simple pieces to more traditional Indian garments. One example of a suitable baby gift is to buy the child their first sari if the child is a girl. Avoid buying anything made of leather as the Hindu religion has very strict guidelines in terms of revering cows and their hides.

    Figurines

    • Hindu culture is centered around very specific religious symbols such as elephants, Hindu gods and Buddha statues. Because traditional Hindu households prominently display these items; one gift option for a new baby is to purchase a religious statue or figurine for display in the child's nursery or bedroom. In order for this type of gift to work best, you should be completely sure of the religious affiliations of the parents and family.
