Golden Weapons in "Call of Duty 4"
"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" is a first-person shooter available for the PC, Mac, Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game features an online multiplayer mode with deep leveling and weapons systems. The more you play and the better you do, the higher your rank becomes, which helps unlock new weapons and accessories to improve your stats or customize your weapon. One type of camouflage available in the game gives players certain weapons with a golden skin.

The Golden Weapons

The golden weapons are available only in online multiplayer mode, not the single-player campaign. The golden weapons aren't entirely new guns. They are golden versions of guns already available in the game. These guns have a gold camouflage players can equip via the gun's attachment menu. The AK-47, Dragunov, Mini-Uzi, M1014, M60E4 and Desert Eagle are the weapons that can be equipped with golden skins. The skins aren't available at the start of the game. Aside from progressing your level to unlock the specific guns, themselves, you'll have to complete all of the game's Weapons Challenges to unlock the golden guns.
The Golden Desert Eagle

Although most golden weapons are unlocked once you complete the Weapons Challenges, the golden Desert Eagle isn't. To unlock this weapon, you have to reach level 55. As you play the game's online multiplayer mode, your level will increase. Increasing your level unlocks many of the game's weapons, which aren't available to a level 1 player. Despite being unlocked differently, the golden Desert Eagle is also simply a camouflage for the regular Desert Eagle sidearm.

Weapons Challenges

Once you're at a high enough level to use the nongolden version of a gun with an unlockable golden skin, you can unlock the golden versions. Weapons Challenges are broken up into two categories, Marksman and Expert. The Marksman challenges require you to kill a certain amount of enemies with the specific weapon. The Expert challenges are similar but require head shots. For example, getting enough kills with the AK-47 completes the weapon's Marksman challenges. Once you've beat all of the Marksman and Expert challenges for the AK-47, the golden camouflage becomes selectable.
Considerations

The Expert challenges present the most difficulty, especially with low-accuracy weapons like the AK-47. While the golden weapons take considerable time and effort to unlock, they actually don't improve the stats of the weapon; the regular Mini-Uzi has the exact same stats as the golden Mini-Uzi. Instead of improving the weapons, the golden skins are a sign of skill because you need to master a weapon to unlock the golden version. Playing against somebody with a golden Dragunov, you can be sure that they're good with that gun because they had to beat every Weapons Challenge to use it.
