Tips to Keep a Room Clean
Rather than wait until the room is dirty and in disarray, you can use some simple cleaning tips to keep the room clean all the time. Once you see how easy it is to keep a room clean without sacrificing your time to do other things, you will have a clean house and plenty of time for you. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Pick It Up
-
If you see something on the floor, pick it up and put it away. If you have kids who leave toys lying around the room, place the toys in a pile according to what child the toys belong to and have each child take the toys to his room before meals or bedtime. If you see crumbs or pet hair floating around the floor, sweep it up or invest in a hand vac so you don't need to pull out the upright vacuum cleaner for touch-ups.
Drop It and Go
-
Make one specific area for purses, keys, mail and letters from the kids' school crafts or letters from the teacher. This area should be close to the entry and exit ways. As you and the kids walk in the door, place the things on the table. At night before meals or bed, go through everything and place junk mail in the garbage, kids' school things in a special box and letters that need attention by the phone. If you need to sign permission slips, sign them and place them back on the table. As you and the kids leave the house, each grabs what they need from the table, which keeps the clutter in one place, making the pile easier to manage and go through each day.

Clean, Eat and Clean
-
Kitchens pose a problem when you want to keep rooms clean. Before and after meals, do the dishes. As you cook and make dirty dishes, wash the dishes and let them dry while you continue. Wipe down tables, and wipe away any fingerprints left on appliances after meals. Sweep floor crumbs into a pile and discard in the garbage. Take a look in the refrigerator, and discard any old food and leftovers while waiting for dinner to be finished.
Throw It Away
-
Instead of keeping magazines, old books and newspapers lying around, read them and throw them away right away. If you have a child's toy box that is overflowing onto the floor, sit down and go through the toys and get rid of broken toys or toys that aren't used anymore. Do this all the time to keep the room clean. As things break, throw them away instead of moving to another room in hopes of fixing them someday. Less clutter in a room makes it look cleaner and stay cleaner longer.
Bathrooms
-
Every time you use the sink, rinse the sink bowl and faucet with water, and dry with a used hand towel. Keep a laundry bag on the inside doorknob for putting dirty clothes and towels inside. When you take a shower, use a rag to wipe down the shower surround and rub the faucets so they shine. When you get out of the shower, use the wet rag to wipe the floor around the toilet and along the edge of the tub.
