Celtic Uses of Crystals
The word Celtic is used to describe people living in central and western Europe from as early as 1200 B.C. Their height of power was around 400 B.C., but during later years, many Celtic territories were taken over by the Romans, and other groups. The Celts managed to maintain their independence in the British Isles for centuries.
The Celtic people believed in elves, fairies, demons, magic, rituals---and the power of crystals. Many people keep these beliefs and cultural traditions alive today, especially in Ireland. Many symbolic items are made with crystals in order to harness the power and energy believed to be in the stones.

Crystal Pendants

A Celtic cross pendant, adorned with a gemstone. The Celtic people made and wore crystals as pendants for a variety of reasons. Different types of crystals were used for different purposes. A few examples are: citrine, believed to improve self-confidence; rose quartz, said to attract love; turquoise, worn for luck; and amethyst, believed to enhance psychic ability.
Many people today, all over the world, continue to believe in the benefits of wearing crystals. Jewelry often seen in Ireland today combines crystals with traditional Celtic symbols, such as knots and crosses.
Magic Wands

A magic wand, often made with crystals and believed to have powers. Some say that in ancient Celtic traditions, wands were made from wood, carved with Celtic symbols and a powerful crystal was placed at the tip. Wands are believed to facilitate healing and magic. A wand can have different types of "power," according to the type of crystals used. One common type often seen on wands is a clear quartz crystal that comes to a pointed tip at the end. When held, this type of wand is believed to form a protective energy barrier, and aids in communicating with the spirit world.

Rune Sets
-
Rune symbols are like a Celtic alphabet. A rune set is normally a pouch filled with 24 individual round stone or wood pieces, each with a different symbol engraved on it. There are also many rune sets made with crystals instead of stone or wood, packaged in a box. Some believe that using crystals for a rune set makes it more powerful.
It is believed that Celtic people practiced a ritual called "casting the runes." This was used to invoke higher powers who could influence people's lives, affect the weather, fertility, births, deaths and curses.
Crystal Balls
-
Crystal balls are often made from quartz crystal, and used to predict the future. The first crystal ball is believed to have been used in Britain in 2000 B.C. by tribes unified by the Druids, an ancient Celtic spiritual society. The Druids were believed to be the first people to use crystals in divination.
Crystal balls are made from a variety of different crystals, but clear quartz is most preferred by clairvoyants. The crystals are ground, heated and formed into a sphere.
Crystal balls are used to predict future events and gain mystic insights. It is believed that images or symbols representing future events can be seen on the sphere's smooth, clear surface. Placing your hands on the crystal is meant to facilitate the process of transferring its energy and messages.
