Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows the transmission of electronic data over a short distance. The iPhone is compatible with the Bluetooth hands-free profile. Using this profile, you can make and receive hands-free telephone calls using your iPhone. The first time you use the Bluetooth hands-free device with your iPhone, you will need to pair the devices. Pairing is the setup process that allows Bluetooth devices to recognize and communicate with each other.

Press the "Settings" icon on your iPhone.

Tap the "General" option and select "Bluetooth."

Move the switch to the right of "Bluetooth" to the "ON" position.

Press and hold the "Pairing" button on your hands-free Bluetooth device. The "Paring" button is often but not always the same as the "Power" button. Consult the owner's manual of your hands-free device for the exact location of the "Pairing" button on your device.

Wait for the LED light on the hands-free device to start flashing. This indicates the device is in pairing mode. Release the button.

Select the hands-free device from the list of available Bluetooth devices on your iPhone.

Enter the password for the hands-free device when prompted by your iPhone. The password is typically "0000" or "1234." If these passwords don't work, consult the owner's manual of your hands-free Bluetooth device for the correct password.

Wait for the iPhone to prompt you that the pairing process is complete and the devices are connected.

Place your iPhone in range of the Bluetooth device and power both devices on. After initially completing the pairing processes, the devices will automatically recognize and connect to each other in the future.

Make calls as normal using the keypad on your iPhone. All sound from the call will automatically play through the hands-free device. In addition, sound for the call comes through the microphone on the hands-free device.

Answer a call by pressing the button on the hands-free device.

Tips

If you don't want to use the hands-free device to make or receive a call, power off the hands-free device.
