Place cards are a nice touch to any party where you will have a seated dinner. They can be fancy, plain, fun, or serious. You can purchase them or make your own. Making your own place cards can be quite inexpensive and fun. When planning a party, consider some ideas on how to make your own place cards. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Male and Female Place Cards

    • You can make the same place cards for both your male and female guests but add a little different touch to each one. Use a 3-inch-by-5-inch index card folded in half and write the guest's name on it. For males, cut out a black bow tie and glue it to their card. For females, tie a pretty bow and glue it to their card.

    Themed Place Cards

    • Make a place card to match the theme of your party. For instance, if you are having a potluck dinner, use 3-by-5 index cards and write a recipe on each card with the guest's name at the top. This is a lasting place card for that person. Or, ask each person to submit a recipe to you before the dinner, put the recipes on place cards, and have each guest try to guess who the recipe is from.

    Formal Wedding Place Cards

    • Formal wedding place cards can be quite elegant. A lasting memento of your wedding is a place card with your monogram and a picture of the bride and groom. Print a picture of the bride and groom on a 3-by-5 index card along with their monogram. On the other side of the index card, print the person's name. Fold the index card with the picture on the inside. A border in the color of your wedding can be added to the outside of the place card.

    Informal Wedding Place Cards

    • An informal wedding place card can be whimsical, funny, or plain. Using the theme of your wedding, print a 3-by-5 index card with a funny poem, caption, or saying. On the other side of the index card, print the person's name using a whimsical font. Use your imagination when it comes to an informal wedding place card.

    Picture Place Cards

    • Obtain pictures of your guests before the party, copy the pictures, and cut them out. Fold a 3-by-5 index card and glue the picture to the card. This is a fun idea using baby pictures of your guests. When creating the place cards, put each picture on another person's place card and have the guests try to guess who is on their place card.
