Spice up your party with a festive green shamrock cookie.

On St. Patrick's Day, anyone can be Irish just by adding a bit of green. Many will do this with green-themed outfits, buttons or pinned-on shamrocks. If you are holding a St. Patrick's Day party, you can also green things up by adding green foods to the menu, or even green to the food that isn't green.

  1. Fruit Platters

    • One way to add green to your food selections is to set out a tray of green fruits for your guests. There are many to choose from, such as green grapes, sliced green apples, green raisins and sliced kiwi and honeydew melon balls. Arrange these decoratively on the tray, supplying green utensils and green dips.

    Vegetable Platters

    • You should also put out a tray for green vegetables. Arrange the stalked vegetables in a sprayed array around a central bowl of guacamole or other green dip. Provide festive green plates with shamrocks or leprechauns on them. Insert green toothpicks in each item and a large spoon so people can serve themselves dip.

    Green Breakfast

    • If the party is early enough in the day, try a green breakfast tray. Stack piles of green eggs and green pancakes. (Just add food coloring to either before you cook them.) You can even add a dash of the green food coloring to the syrup you use on the pancakes.

    Beverages

    • Your guests will definitely want something to wash all those green edibles down with, so why not continue the green theme by offering them green teas (literally), coffee, green soda or, for adults, green beer. You could also offer minty green milkshakes.

    Green Sweets

    • Create some cookies and cupcakes for your party. Again, you should add food coloring to the dough or batter mixture to make it green. Once the cupcakes have cooled, use some dark green frosting to cover the cupcakes. Then use a light green frosting in a pastry bag to squeeze out shamrock shapes onto both the cookies and the cupcakes.
