When a woman leaves the company for retirement or to pursue other career opportunities, it's a thoughtful gesture to honor her with a leaving gift. Leaving gifts should reflect the woman's personality and add to the excitement of her future endeavors. Colleagues can choose to give leaving presents individually or go in together on one large gift.
Choose a gift that suits the woman's hobbies. For example, if she's a fan of golf, give her a new golf bag or a golf club. If she enjoys hiking, give her a new backpack and a book on local hikes. For the avid reader, give books, subscriptions or an eBook reader. To make the gift extra special, arrange several items according to a theme in a gift basket. For example, if she loves to garden, give her a garden-themed gift basket full of seeds, garden tools, garden gloves and other gardening-related items.
Give the departing woman the chance to start off her new life with an adventure. For example, give her a gift voucher for a hot-air balloon ride, para-sailing, spending an evening on a seaplane or going on a zip-lining trek. These gifts are especially appropriate for someone who enjoys new experiences and living life to the fullest. Purchase the adventure gift for two people so she can take her husband, boyfriend or a friend along with her.
Encourage the woman to relax and enjoy her time off with gifts that help her pamper herself. Give her a selection of beauty products such as moisturizers, bubble baths and loofahs. Send her on a spa weekend with a gift certificate for a range of spa treatments, such as massages, pedicures, manicures, facials, body wraps and mud baths. This is an especially appropriate gift for women who have always worked long hours and never had much time to pamper themselves, such as women laborers and nurses.
Give a personalized gift to show how much you've appreciated her work and commitment to the company. For example, have a wristwatch engraved with her name, the company's name and the years she worked. Give her luggage or clothing that's monogrammed with her name. Frame a photo of her and her coworkers that she can have as a keepsake of her career. Honor her by engraving her name on a plaque that hangs in the office to acknowledge previous exemplary employees.
