Haunted Places in NYC
Among the many haunted places in the United States, New York City ranks near the top. The city has many buildings that are said to be haunted, including "The House Of Death" where 22 people died, and The Dakota apartment building where resident John Lennon was assassinated. Haunted buildings in the city include hotels, restaurants, bars, theaters, apartment buildings, houses and churches.

The Algonquin Hotel in NYC has been rumored to be haunted by a group of writers who formed "The Round Table" and would eat lunch at the hotel every day following World War I. The writers included Herold Ross, Alexander Woollcott and Marc Connelly, among others. People have also seen hauntings at The Ear Inn by a sailor named Mickey who was hit by a car in front of the hotel.
Restaurants and Bars

There are several restaurants and bars in NYC rumored to have ghosts and other hauntings. These include The Bridge Cafe, Chumley's, Manhattan Bistro, The White Horse Tavern and One if by Land, Two if by Sea. Many of these hotels are said to be haunted by previous employees or patrons such as The Manhattan Bistro that is said to be haunted by a young woman who was murdered there in 1799. The Bridge Cafe on Water Street, first opened in 1794, is rumored to be haunted by pirates.

Among the apartments and houses said to be haunted in NYC include none other than The Dakota Building. Former Beatle John Lennon was a longtime resident at the Dakota and was assassinated on the sidewalk in front of the building. Other apartments and houses with rumored hauntings include The Billop House, the Bay Ridge Apartments, the Clinton Street Brownstone and the house that was named "The House of Death" after 22 people died there.
Theaters

Theaters in NYC that have been rumored to have hauntings include the Belasco Theater, New Amsterdam Theater, The Palace Theater and Radio City Music Hall. Previous employees and customers of The Palace Theater have supposedly seen more than 100 ghosts and hauntings over the years, making it one of the most commonly haunted places in the city. Samuel Roxy Rothafel one of the people responsible for starting Radio City Music Hall, has reportedly been seen on opening nights with a woman companion.
Churches and Burial Grounds

In cities around the world, churches and burial grounds are typically the most common places for ghosts and haunting stories. In NYC the Old St. Patrick's Cathedral, St. Paul's Chapel Burial Ground, Staten Island Monastery and Trinity Church have all been rumored to be haunted by ghosts. People have reported hearing voices and laughter, and said they've seen figures walking or "gliding" through the cemetery and churches.
