Get festive with your Halloween costume selection.

Halloween is known for ghouls and goblins and the adopting of fantastic costumes. Many take full advantage of this one night a year when it is more than just OK to look completely out of place. As you prepare for the approaching fright-night, plan an attention-getting costume that embodies who you are or who you might like to be.

  1. Pretty as a Picture

    • Embody a work of art this Halloween by creating a costume that's pretty as a picture. To craft this costume, select a work of art that you admire or one that you think you may be able to embody effectively. Print out a large version of this art piece. Using cardboard, create an intricate frame like you may see in a museum. Cut out the face of the individual who you are going to embody this Halloween. Attach handles or ribbon to the side of the frame so you can tie or hold the frame in place. Paint your face if necessary to fully complete the transformation.

    Floral Darling

    • Mimic the beauty of nature by creating a floral costume. To make your costume a simple one, cut a large flower shape out of thick materials, such as corrugated cardboard, and paint the cutout to look like a beautiful bloom. Clip the center out of this flower cutout and place your face in the created hole, slipping into green clothing to resemble a stem.

For a more complex creation, be just one flower out of many. Create this costume by making a flower mask as you would have for the previous creation, but also creating a flower pot with cardboard and slipping it onto your lower body. Attach some silk flowers so you look like you are just one of the blooms.

    Historical Figure

    • Step into the shoes of someone who made a difference in history by creating a historical figure costume. Instead of dressing up as any old astronaut, dress up as Neil Armstrong taking those first faithful steps onto the moon. Or embody Amelia Earhart on the day that she prepared to take the trip from which she never returned. Study classic pictures of the individual you select to ensure that you have the costume just right.

    Favorite Food

    • Dress as your favorite tasty treat this Halloween. Copy the packaging for your favorite food, creating a cardboard version of this food wrap, or craft a food-themed costume out of fabric, draping the fabric so it resembles the food that you most admire. For example, if your favorite food is lollipops, create a lollipop head cutout, cutting a hole in the center for your face, and cover your creation with gauze or plastic material to resemble the lollipop cover.
