Paint and Furniture Placements
-
Painting the walls and moving the furniture to different positions gives you the biggest transformation in a room. Move a bed from a wall into a corner of a room, or place the table horizontally in the room from its vertical position. Paint the entire room a new color, or design an accent wall. Apply a stencil or pattern with paint, or design your own wall mural, such as a garden, using leftover paints for the grass and flowers.
Fabric
-
Transform a kitchen's décor by changing the fabric on kitchen chairs. Remove the bottom seat, cover it with new fabric and staple it to the bottom of the chair. Bring different punches of color into your living room and bedroom by covering old throw pillows with new fabrics. Embellish the edges of the pillows with tassels or strands of beads. Remove the existing curtains in all of your rooms and sew new curtains for them, or use a no-sew method for curtains by draping fabrics over the curtain rods.

Lighting
-
Give your home task and mood lighting. Use Christmas tree lights to spruce up your home with mood lighting. Run a strand of lights along the top perimeter of your bedroom, or hang twinkle lights from the window. Change up a light shade by gluing an old map around an existing shade, or create a design in the shade and use a needle to outline the shapes for the lights to shine through. Pick up some lamps and shades at a garage sale or thrift shop if you aren't sure about changing your own.
Accessories
-
Box up existing items on your shelves to make room for new ones. Group a different collection in their place, such as a collection of bottles in the kitchen or one of perfume bottles in the bathroom or bedroom. Switch out the hardware on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets and the knobs on the bedroom dresser drawers. Change the light switches to color coordinate to the room, or glue wallpaper to the switches for a new look.
