About Helping the Poor
Poverty is the harsh reality for not only millions of Americans but for individuals and families across the world. As a global community, it is important that we lend a hand to those in need and less fortunate, especially in times of crisis. If you or your family is interested in helping fight the war against poverty, there are a number of ways that you can easily get involved to help make a difference in your community, country and across the world.
-
Raise Funds for Worthy Causes
-
Organize a fundraiser to earn money for a charity. The main root of poverty is the lack of income that is required to supply the items and pay for the services we need to survive and live a happy life. There are a number of highly reputable organizations that are constantly working to raise money to fund housing, food and outreach programs that work toward alleviating the suffering of the impoverished both in the short and long term. If you have a knack for organization or consider yourself to be a persuasive sales person, get your family and community involved in the war against poverty by researching and selecting a charity that you would like to help. Organize a fundraiser within your community and forward all of the proceeds to the cause. Find creative ways to present the information to your community regarding poverty and why you feel it is so important that they take a stand to help. If you run into skeptics of the cause, be prepared with a printed breakdown of how each dollar of a donation is spent so that you can show your donors what a difference their help really makes.
Donate Your Time and Skills
-
Volunteer your time and services hands on to make a difference. While not everyone is financially able to make large donations to charitable organizations, they still have the option to donate their time and skills to worthy causes. Start by doing some research within your area to find out what programs, charities and organizations are located near you and that may be in need of physical help. You can offer your services to these organizations as a volunteer and work hands on to create a better future for those less fortunate for yourself. No matter what your talents or skill set, there are an infinite number of ways to get involved. If your looking to stay local, volunteer to help build low income homes in your area or lend a hand at soup kitchen or shelter. For those looking to make a lifelong impact, you may want to consider enlisting yourself in a program like the Peace Corps or even a career with an organization like the Red Cross which would allow you to help people on a larger scale and to travel around the world expanding your cultural knowledge and forming informed opinions about humanity around the world. This type of dedication isn't attractive to everyone, but it is definitely rewarding.

Sponsor an Impoverished Child
-
Child sponsors feel rewarded when they see first hand the impact they make in children's lives. Everyone has seen the commercials that feature malnourished and impoverished children from across the globe. Sadly, these programs show the horrible truth and while we feel badly, we often change the channel and do nothing. Many of the sponsorship programs we see online are actually legitimate programs and organization working to beat hunger and poverty across the globe. Many of these programs are solely funded by individual donations. These programs allow you to sign up to sponsor a child in need by giving a recurring monthly gift of around 20 dollars or less. The proceeds of these donations go straight to the benefit of that child and are often used to provide food, clothing, shelter, education and medical supplies. Some of these programs even allow you to keep in contact with your sponsor child so you can really see the difference that you are making. Sponsorship programs are affordable and rewarding for people of every financial situation.
Educate the Masses
-
Sharing information of your cause will encourage people to lend a hand. One person can make a huge difference in the world. A part of that impact is created by spreading the message about causes you believe in and inspiring others to join in the mission. When you take it upon yourself to try and educate others about the issue of poverty at home and across the globe, you are giving out the information that will get people inspired to do their part as well. If this is something you think you may be interested in, visit your local welfare and social services facilities to do some research about the issues at hand and find out about different ways you can help. Use this information to put together an informational presentation that you can use to inspire potential activists.
