Projects to Do With Plastic Bags
Trips to the store often add to the stockpile of plastic sacks piling up in your home. According to Green Living Tips, between 500 billion and a trillion plastic grocery bags are used worldwide each year. Reusing plastic grocery bags is common. These small grocery bags make wonderful small trash bags and work well when transporting small items. Both small and large plastic bags make versatile craft items that can be utilized to create a variety of useful and interesting items.

Make "plarn," which is yarn made from strips of plastic bags. Cut assorted plastic shopping bags into 1/2 inch wide strips. Use size 101/2 knitting needles to create a purse or carryall bag with the plastic bag yarn. Use three strands of plastic bags braided together to create a handle.
Parachute Toy

Cut a square from a plastic bag and trim the edges so it turns into an octagon. Cut a hole near the edge of each side and attach a piece of string, of the same length, to each of the eight holes. Tie the pieces of string to a small, light object, such as a tiny, plastic action figure. Stand on a top step or chair and drop the parachute.

Plastic Bag Jewelry
-
Create jewelry such as pendants and earrings using plastic bags. Cut plastic bags into strips. Use white craft glue to layer the plastic bag strips. Use various colored bags for a colorful look. Once several layers have been glued together and have thoroughly dried, cut the plastic into a shape such as a rectangle or an abstract shape. Attach the shape to an earring casing (available at craft stores) or to a pendent head (also available at craft stores) to create beautiful jewelry from plastic bags.
Plastic Bag Rug
-
Create a loom out of cardboard by cutting notches along the top and bottom of the cardboard. Cut large garbage bags in long strips that are approximately 6 inches wide. Tie all the strips together to create one long piece. Wrap the garbage bag strips around the cardboard using the notches to hold the bag strip securely. Tie the ends together on the back diagonally. Make more strips of plastic bags and weave them into the loom. Tie one end of the shopping bags to the top corner of the loom and weave the rest of the shopping bag over and under the garbage bag strips. Weave each row in an opposite pattern as the previous row. Soon you will have a rug.
