Pigtails

Pigtails can work for adults as well as children. A classic style for little girls, pigtails are easy to style. Simply divide the hair into two plaits and secure each with a ribbon or elastic. Pigtails can easily be accessorized with decorated hair-ties, barrettes and other charms and the hair in each can be left loose or braided, depending on the desired look. Slightly older women can wear pigtails tied lower on their heads, near the nape of their neck or the top of the jawline, for a more mature look.
Inside-Out Ponytail

To make an inside-out ponytail, first pull the hair back in an elastic. For a simple yet sophisticated hairstyle, try making an inside-out ponytail. Though the finished look may appear complicated, an inside-out ponytail can be made in seconds and only requires a single hair elastic. Pull the hair into a single ponytail at the center of the back of the head and then take the gathered hair and pull it through the base of the tail just behind the elastic, pushing and pulling it all the way through. Give the hair a solid tug to secure the style and gather up any loose pieces with a bobby pin, securing with hairspray if needed.

Side Ponytail

For a soft, bohemian look, gather hair in a loose side ponytail. Select a colored scarf or ribbon to secure hair with has been gathered and loosely pull around to the side of head, tying it in a low ponytail near the base of the jawline. Avoid a tightly styled ponytail high up on the side of the head, which will create a dated, 1980s look. Allow the hair to fall over the shoulder and finish it with a curling iron if desired, creating wavy, flowing locks.
Concealed Elastic

Hide an elastic tie with a loose piece of hair for a classy look. A ponytail is a classic, simple updo, but the sight of a cheap elastic hair-tie or a dated scrunchie can throw the look off, especially when dressing to impress. To make a ponytail a little more chic, use a section hair to conceal the hair elastic, keep the look smooth and uniform. When pulling the back into a ponytail, leave a long section about a quarter of an inch wide hanging free. After securing the hair with a tie, take the loose piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic, hiding it from view. Secure it with a bobby pin pushed into the hair and curl the ends for extra glamor.
