First Birthday Gift for Husband

The first birthday after marriage is always a tricky one. It could shape the rest of his birthdays as a married man. Setting a good precedent can help your marriage as you make your husband feel special. Depending on your husband's likes and personality, you'll want to decide if the whole day should be a celebration, if he'd rather have an experience than a gift or if he would prefer to have something small and simple. Whatever his type, just remember to make it special and meaningful.

  • Book a romantic hotel room for a weekend getaway, complete with reservations at his favorite restaurant. Wrap up some lingerie for him to open -- and you to wear. Get him some of his favorite cologne, and wear his favorite perfume.

  • Make a list of all the things you love about your husband. Cut out each reason and put it in a Chinese takeout box with some fortune cookies. This way, he'll be reminded of why he's great. You can do the same thing with the reasons written out on hearts taped around the house or on candy bars. You could also kidnap him and take him to the spot of your first date or first kiss or another special place. Have his favorite meal waiting for him.

Just for Fun

  • Get him something fun that can lead to an activity you can do together like a kite, a game, a puzzle, a model plane, tennis racket or in-line skates. You could also get him something he liked to do as a child. After all, they say men are always little boys. Things like Nerf guns, video games, remote control cars or dartboards can be a big hit. Or try taking him on an adventure like skydiving, backpacking, rappelling or rock climbing. Get him tickets to see his favorite band in concert or send a basket of cookies to his office.

  • For the tech-savvy, get him the latest electronic gadget. Talk to the experts at the electronics store or to his friends or co-workers to find out what the latest and greatest new toy is.

Sports Lover

  • Get him tickets to see his favorite team or give him apparel featuring his favorite player's number. If he's an avid sports player, get him some new gear.

Gift Card

  • If you have a husband who likes to pick out his own things, give him a gift card to his favorite store with a promise that you'll go with him. Don't question what he picks out. By going shopping with him and paying close attention to the things he's interested in, you'll have a better idea of what you might get him next year.
