Bubbles are a mess-free and romantic sendoff for the newleyweds.

The tradition of throwing rice over the bride and groom at weddings has led to myths surrounding the risks posed to birds. This has led some couples to seek safer alternatives. Bubbles and bird seed are affordable options to replace rice. Hand out individual containers of bubbles to your guests as favors, and use the bottles as part of centerpieces. Blown-glass sculptures or water-filled cylinders with air bubbles are other centerpiece ideas and bubble machines can fill your venue with floating bubbles.

  1. Favors

    • The simplest way to incorporate bubbles into wedding decor is to use small bottles of bubbles as favors for your guests. Instead of simply handing out the bottles, incorporate the bottles into the reception centerpieces or create centerpieces solely out of the bottles. Decorate the bubble bottles with colored ribbon to match your wedding colors, attach charms to reflect the theme or monogram each bottle with the bride and groom's names and wedding date. Guests can use the bubbles to send off the couple at the end of the evening.

    Bubble Station

    • Create an elaborate bubble-blowing station at the reception venue. Display a variety of bubble-solution colors in open glass jars. Set out blowing wands in different sizes and shapes for guests to pick up and use throughout the reception. You also can set up a candy or dessert table to mimic the bubble theme and accompany the bubble-blowing station. The candy station could have different types of bubble gum, so guests can create edible bubbles. Another item could be different kinds of soda or champagne because the carbonation in the beverages creates bubbles.

    Bubble Machine

    • Bubble machines can be used indoors and outdoors without worrying about damage and messy cleanup. Bubble machines can be purchased or rented from party supply stores in a range of sizes and weights. The DJ EZ Bubbles machine is 10.5 inches by 7.25 inches by 10.75 inches and weighs 7 lbs. Other machines like the Super Bubbler is larger, measuring 12 inches by 12.25 inches by 7.12 inches and weighing 10 lbs. The American DJ Bubble Blast Jr. measures 11.5 inches by 11.5 inches by 9.5 inches and weighs 13 lbs. Place the bubble machines close to the ceilings in indoor venues so the bubbles float downward toward the guests. If you want your bubbles to float around the reception room, like they naturally would outdoors, use fans by the bubble machines to move the bubbles around the room. If you are concerned about bubbles ruining the dinner portion of the reception, have the machines positioned so the bubbles won't land in the dining area, or you can start the machines after the plates have been cleared.

    Sculptures and Vases

    • Purchase blown-glass sculptures of bubbles to use as centerpieces. The glass replicates the viscosity of the bubble's exterior and you get a solid replica that won't pop throughout the festivities. If that is too simple, create centerpieces using champagne glasses filled with champagne or carbonated water. Guests can take glasses from the centerpiece throughout the night and the centerpiece will be functional as well as elegant. If your budget permits, you could have tubes created and fill the tubes with colored water and a fan in the base of the tube that creates bubbles to flow up through the water.
