Artists compete at outdoor art festivals in the United States.

Outdoor art festivals highlight the works of local and regional crafters. Shows are often infused with tunes from local musicians, locally grown food and judged art competitions. Guests at outdoor art festivals can speak with the artisans and purchase works to adorn the walls of their own homes. Photography, painting, mixed media and sculpture workshops are also incorporated into the festivals to guide novices in self-expression projects.

  1. Mystic Outdoor Art Festival

    • The Mystic Outdoor Art Festival is routinely held during the middle of August. The event is hosted by the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce in Mystic, Connecticut. The annual art festival typically attracts more than 250 regional artists and photographers and at least 60 crafters. A juried art competition for the presented works is among the highlights of the festivals. Artists and crafters brighten the streets of Mystic's historic downtown area for two days. The event is a family affair and encourages little ones to enjoy hands-on children's art activities. Common art submission by professional artists based in the New England area include sculptures, photography, oil, pastel and acrylic paintings.

    Allentown Village Society

    • The Allentown Village Society in Buffalo, New York hosts an outdoor art festival during early June each year. The event is held in the Allentown Historic Preservation District near local boutiques and cafes. Typically more than 400 juried exhibits are shared with the public during the annual art festival. In addition to monetary awards for the artists, the event also raises funds for students from Erie County High School to attend classes at the New York State Summer for the Arts program. In addition to the works created by professional artists, teachers from Buffalo Public Schools Art Education Department compete to win money for classroom supplies. Festival judges choose the best art lesson plan presented and provide funds to create the planned project.

    Heart of Virginia Festival

    • Heart of Virginia Festival is a massive cultural event which includes a host of events designed to appeal to a multi-generational audience. Typical events include an art show, craft shows, special children's area with artistic activities, antique car show, live entertainment and a 10K run. The event is held the first weekend of May in Farmville, Virginia. The art show is the highlight of the local cultural festival, which is held at the Longwood University Rotunda. Works from local artisans are judged at the end of the single day event and prizes are awarded onstage. Festival guests vote for a "Fan Favorite" amongst the artists.

    Deland Outdoor Art Festival

    • Deland, Florida Outdoor Art Festival occurs the last weekend of March and includes live entertainment, food and an antique car show. Festival visitors explore the grounds of Earl Brown Park in the downtown area, viewing works from local crafters and artists. Artists can elect to have their creations judged or simply viewed by spectators and offered for sale. Temporary booths and canopy tents dot the landscape of the park holding sculptures, photos, paintings and carved wooden items created by both novice and professional artists.
