Unique Paint Effects on Wood Floors

The only limit to the painting you can do on your word floor is your imagination and your artististic talent. You can use just about any kind of paint on wood including watercolor, acrylic, oil, house paint, spray paint, paint crayons, ink, dyes and more. As for topic and style, it can be anything you want, from a giant dragon to a three-dimensional rabbit hole like Alice's Wonderland.

Colors

Paint your floor using a single color. This works best when the room is otherwise plain and the color can brighten it up. For example paint the floor of your deck a bright color like red or green. These colors hide dirt and add a decorative touch that highlights the look of the rest of the home.

Patterns

Patterns range from simpler such as checker board or stripes to complex ones like plaid, rocks or even grass. Patterned floors are all about attention and are usually used in rooms too large for rugs. Checkerboard remains the most popular and well-known pattern but you can do so much more. For example, for a quick and easy step up from a normal checkerboard pattern, use a stencil to spray paint a coat of arms onto every other square.

Simple Design

Simple designs beyond patterns can be a lot of fun. They are most commonly used in children's play areas although they can be grown-up too. To create a car track in a child's room, paint a bird's eye view of a city on the floor. Include roads, train tracks, houses, maybe a few buildings continued up the wall or furniture. Your child can then take his toy trucks and "drive" around the room.

Complex designs

Complex designs are quite expensive and are usually preserved under glass instead of the more common lacquer. A brilliant artist is capable of painting a floor into a 3D image of a fire-breathing dragon flying from a cave opening in the floor. The kind of detail necessary for these types of designs may require hundreds of reference images and practices paintings on paper before the floor is touched.
