Birthday displays are a memorable way to showcase a loved one. At parties, a birthday display using photos or keepsake items allows the guests and the honoree to relive old memories while creating new ones. There are several options for creating a birthday display, but each should hold significance to the person celebrating the birthday and the birthday year being celebrated. Does this Spark an idea?

Photo Memories

For milestone birthdays, such as first or 50th birthdays, create a photo memory display. If the party is in the spring, consider making paper flowers to hang in a memory garden on the wall with a picture of the honoree in the center of each. Or hang a poster board with a picture collage over the display table. Include framed photos of significant events in the honoree's life. For example, first steps, first day of school for younger ages and weddings, graduations and births of children for older birthdays. Also include on a small table near the entrance to the party, a photo album that documents the honoree's life from birth to present. Next to the album have a guest book ready so guests can record a message. Leave the last pages of the album blank and scatter disposable cameras around the room so guests can take pictures of the party to add to the album later.
Memory Boxes

Use cardboard boxes, painted to match the party's theme or a favorite color, to display artifacts of memorable moments in the honoree's life. Set the boxes on their sides and place things like first shoes, Halloween costumes, communion dresses, or first books and toys inside. If there is a photo to accompany each object, put it in a frame and set it next to the item with a label explaining the date and significance of the item. Stack the boxes or lay them out on a long table so that guests can look as they enter the party.

Self-Standing Photo Board

Use a tri-fold board to create a standing display of memorable moments for the birthday girl or boy. Give a title to the board, which might just be Happy Birthday or a message that goes with the theme of the party, such as "Over the Hill," or "Sweet Sixteen." Attach pictures all around the board and add thematic elements such as balloons, confetti or images of things that the honoree enjoys, such as soccer or dancing. Display the board on the gift table at the party. Another option is to blow up a favorite photo of the honoree and paste it to the center panel of the tri-board, or create a collage of smaller photos to fit the space. Then leave the flaps blank so that guests can sign the board with a marker, leaving little messages.
Placemats or Tees

A different take on photo memory displays is to put pictures on place mats or T-shirts and place them around tables at the party. There are printing stores that will do this for you, or you can buy fabric sheets from a craft or fabric store that can be printed on using your computer and printer, and then ironed onto the fabric. Arrange a framed photo of the guest of honor at each table. The photos should be different, and depending on the birthday year that is being celebrated, arrange photos by year or decade.
