Group Costume Ideas for Adults on Halloween

Halloween isn't just for kids anymore.

Just because you're an adult these days does not mean you can't dress up in a silly costume and have a fun night out. Many adults like to go out to Halloween parties or bars in groups, and finding costumes that can accommodate a group can add to the fun. With a little creativity and some time, you and your friends can put together a memorable group Halloween costume.

Musical Groups

You'll be sure to get attention at your next Halloween party dressed as KISS.

Most music groups would not make for dynamic costumes, but there are some that work well. For a group of women, the Spice Girls are an easy choice. Many members will be able to furnish the costumes entirely from their own closets. All-male groups could consider dressing as the Village People. Again, costumes can be found in your closet or at thrift stores. Some of the pieces, such as the Indian headdress, can be made inexpensively or rented. For mixed-gender groups or those who are a little more daring, KISS is a bold choice. The costume pieces may be a bit more difficult to find, but the spandex and flashy makeup are certain to make a big impression.

The Flintstones

This is a great costume for groups with couples and even groups whose members have small children. Two couples can each dress as Fred and Wilma or Barney and Betty. Their costumes can easily be found in stores, on-line or in rental shops. They also can be made if your group has someone who can sew. If there are extra people in the group, they could pose as some of the show's minor characters, such as Dino or Mr. Slate. For groups who will have children with them, little boys can dress up as Bam Bam and little girls can be Pebbles.

Gilligan's Island

Gilligan's Island is a great option for a group costume, especially for fans of classic television.

This is a great choice for groups of up to eight people, five men and three women. Women can choose Mary Ann, Ginger or Mrs. Howell. Most costume pieces can be found in personal wardrobes, but things such as Mrs. Howell's fancy dress can be found at a thrift store. Men can choose amongst dressing as Gilligan, the Skipper, Mr. Howell, the Professor or, for groups who do not mind explaining their roles a little bit, the Announcer. Again, most of these costumes can be found among clothes group members already own.

The Addams Family

The Addams Family can provide the perfect group costume for those groups wanting an easily recognizable set of characters with a macabre twist.

Another classic television show whose characters are perfect for Halloween group costumes is "The Addams Family." This idea is suited to mixed groups of men and women and even for those groups with a few children. Smaller groups can stick to the main characters for their costumes: Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday and Pugsley. Wednesday and Pugsley can be portrayed by children or adults. Larger groups can add other characters, including Uncle Fester, Grandmama and Lurch. Much of the clothing for these costumes can come from items group members already have. The key is to use a lot of black clothing. Makeup is also fairly simple, though darker-skinned group members may want to use white face paint or powder to give themselves a more washed-out look.
