NetZero Internet Tips

NetZero is an ISP, or Internet service provider, that provides dial-up and DSL broadband connections to certain areas of the country. NetZero Internet access features a lower-cost option than traditional Internet service providers, such as AOL or MSN. NetZero offers many options that will help make the user experience as easy and productive as possible.

  1. Use Free Services

    • Netzero is the only ISP provider that still offers free Internet access in the United States. Netzero does limit access to the Internet to 10 hours per month. It is important to keep track of time spent on the Internet so the free hours are not used up too quickly. The free program is great as a backup service or for use during travel.

    Upgrade to Faster Connections

    • One of the major drawbacks for the free service is that the dial-up connection is slow. Netzero does offer packages to speed up the connection for affordable monthly rates. As of 2011, the accelerated dial-up service is $14.95 per month. It does not require installation of any specific hardware or software to increase the speed of the connection.

    Utilize Tools Provided

    • NetZero subscriptions also come with helpful tools such as Norton anti-virus software. Norton software helps protect the computer from harmful viruses and malware that can be installed on your computer when surfing the Internet. NetZero offers the PC Tune Up software program for an additional $4.95 per month. The software helps speed performance, protect personal information, clean up the PC hard drive and fix common PC errors and bugs.

    Help Center

    • Use the Netzero Help Center for any questions about the service. The Help Center provides information on getting started and installing Netzero, billing, using NetZero email, connection troubleshooting, Web browsing and frequently asked questions. The Help Center also has links to NetZero customer support.
