Family Christmas Gift-Giving Ideas

Some families choose to only give gifts to children at Christmastime.

The holidays are a time to show your loved ones how much you care by spending time with each another and sharing thoughtful meals and gifts. Institute a Christmas Secret Santa drawing for your extended family. Write each family member's name down onto individual slips of paper and toss all of the names into a bucket. Have each family member pick a name from the bucket; they must then only purchase a gift for the person whom they selected. If your family is on a budget, you can set a price limit or range for the gifts.

Gifts for the Whole Family

Give an item that the whole family can enjoy, such as a board game or a piece of artwork that everyone will admire. Many organizations, including museums, zoos and movie theaters, offer family memberships; purchase a year's membership that the whole family can enjoy. Making a donation in the family's name to their favorite charity is a gift that is sure to warm the hearts of every family member.

Vacation

Being able to enjoy a fun and relaxing experience with the whole family is a wonderful gift. Instead of exchanging gifts, use that money to take a family vacation together. Choose a location that everyone will like. For example, for families with small children, a trip to Disneyland will be much appreciated. Alternatively, a tropical holiday will please adults and children alike while a European getaway will be an unforgettable cultural delight. You can plan the trip to take place over the holidays or for a later date in the year. If you purchase a vacation package for the off-season, however, it will be more reasonably priced.
