Large Project Uses
-
Because aromatic cedar has natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties it is favored for lining saunas. But this application is also effective because cedar is softwood and therefore resists cracking and splitting from the constant temperature changes associated with saunas. It is also pleasant to look, at ranging in color from light honey to amber to red cinnamon. The beauty of this wood makes it popular for lining closets as well. It is also thought to repel moths and therefore keep clothing intact while offering an alternative to the smell of mothballs. Its beauty and resistance to rot also makes aromatic cedar a less expensive alternative to teak for boat-building and home decks.
Weather Resistant Specific Uses
-
Because cedar resists weather so well, it's been used for years in roofing. Many trinkets have been built from recycled shaker shingles, which had originally been split from aromatic cedar, proving that cedar not only stands the test of time, but the test of weather as well. The weather-resistant traits of cedar lend it to being used as fence posts in cattle country and for cedar buckets.

Lining dresser drawers with cedar will infuse your linens and clothing with the essence of cedar and repel bugs and moths. Hangers built from aromatic cedar offer another means of achieving the same effects as a cedar closet.
Shoe trees are another popular application, as well as shoe stretchers, as the aromatic cedar reduces shoe odor and keeps shoes in good condition.
