Penny Candy Buffet Ideas
A penny candy buffet is a tasty and colorful addition to any party. An elegantly styled candy buffet can brighten even the most formal event. Many couples are choosing to include a candy buffet at their wedding receptions. Creating a penny candy display can be an inexpensive endeavor, but it will take some planning and thrift store shopping to stay under budget. Does this Spark an idea?

Color
-
Plan your penny candy buffet around an eye-catching color theme. Arrange the candy colors in a rainbow pattern, or equally distribute the colors to create an explosion of color. For weddings, a more subdued color palette can also be pleasing. An all white candy display can look especially elegant. If you are going to use only one color of candy, compensate for the lack of color variety with dimensional displays and a lot of shape and texture.
Containers
-
Place penny candy in oversized martini glasses mixed with slim vases and bowls to create a chic container display. Old mason jars with metal scoops inside of them add a bit of shabby chic to the buffet. Budget Dream Weddings suggests that people on a budget go to thrift stores to find inexpensive glass containers. Miniature wooden barrels filled with penny candy are reminiscent of an old-fashioned candy store. If you choose uniform containers, you'll have to create dimension for your display. Raise containers placed toward the back of the table with wooden blocks covered with fabric. This will allow your guests to see the selections and reduce the chances of your candy buffet appearing insubstantial.

Candy
-
Purchase enough candy to make a dazzling display, and don't worry that you will likely buy more candy than all your guests can consume. If all of your penny candy is similar in shape, take some of the candies and wrap them into small sachets that you can pile up to create a different look. Purchase a few larger candy items simply for their appearances. Some candies that really add interest to a display include liquorish and peppermint sticks, large spiral lollipops, crystal rock candy and individually wrapped selections. Combining a few of these different shaped candies will accent the small penny candies and make the table look fuller.
Fillers
-
Fillers are necessary for most penny candy buffets, and they are particularly useful when you are trying to prepare a candy buffet on a budget. Use curled ribbons and confetti strewn across the table to make the display more dazzling. Use table runners down the center to add texture. If you have a little extra time, prepare a few platters of handmade sweets like chocolate dipped cookies, biscotti or drizzled cupcakes for inexpensive fillers that will add variety and texture to the table. Intersperse personal or decorative items, such as pictures and figurines, in between the containers. Additionally, take up some room on the table by creating a serving center where your guests can prepare favor bags of candy to take home.
