To spice things up, move out of the bedroom.

In many relationships, it is easy to fall into a bedroom routine. Whether you are both busy and stressed, or you've simply gotten comfortable with old standbys, adding some spice in the bedroom can bring passion back into your love life. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Break Out the Kama Sutra

    • After you've spent a great deal of time with someone, it can be easy to fall into a routine of favorite positions and a sequence of moves. Instead, surprise your partner with a Kama Sutra book of positions, and have fun trying out different options. Because the burden of responsibility is on the book, it won't be as awkward if you can't carry off a certain move. In the process of going through the book, you may find a new group of positions to add to your arsenal.

Hold Off on the Main Event

    • When you're pressed for time and falling into a routine, it can be too easy to get right down to business without any time for foreplay or enjoying each other's bodies. Keep your clothes on as long as you can, for example, or make a rule that one person must be hands-off while the other person teases; be sure to switch places. By allowing the tension to build, you can make the main event more pleasurable and exciting.

    Role Playing

    • Although it can sound intimidating, role playing is a way to step out of yourself, insecurities and all, for a short period of time. Don't feel pressured to act like a French maid or a delivery boy; instead, choose characters that are just different enough so that you don't feel ridiculous. You might be a business executive in town for a conference, for example, or a repressed suburban housewife who is dying for some excitement. In role playing, you can safely act out fantasies and learn more about your partner.

    Get Out of the Bedroom

    • Often, the key to spicing things up can be as simple as getting out of the bedroom; when you fall into bed, it can be too easy to go to sleep instead of getting busy. Instead, move into the living room on the couch, on an easy chair or in front of the fireplace. Don't use the kitchen just for eating: the counter, dining room table and tall stools can be put to other uses too. Often, the new location can add a hint of naughtiness, particularly if it has been a long time since you've left the bedroom.
