Create crafts using recycled bottle caps.

When people recycle, sometimes they neglect the bottle cap. This small part of the bottle is easy to toss out or ignore. However, bottle caps can be repurposed into many craft projects. After you recycle the glass part of the bottles, grab the caps to use for crafting.

  1. Magnets

    • Bottle cap magnets look cool on your fridge and can be customized to fit any personality. Find some pictures to use for the inside of the caps. The pictures should be about the size of a quarter. Use a quarter to draw around your picture and cut it out for an approximate estimation of the size of the cap. Place your picture inside the cap. Pour resin into the cap, filling it about halfway. Resin can be purchased at a craft store. Allow the caps to dry overnight. Use a hot glue gun or strong glue to glue a circle shaped magnet to the back of the caps.

    Earrings

    • Make eclectic earrings using two bottle caps. You will also need a small craft drill, some craft pliers, jump rings and two earring wire hooks. Jump rings are small wire rings that you attach to others and then press closed. Use alcohol pads to throughly clean the bottle caps and wire hooks. Use the craft drill to drill a small hole through the ridge of the bottle cap so the hole is not visible on the front of the cap. Place a jump ring will through the hole, followed by as many jump rings as you desire, depending on how long you want your earrings to be. Use the pliers to close the jump rings. Finish by putting the earring wire through the final jump ring.

    Ladybug

    • Kids can make a cute ladybug that can be used as a decoration. Using black acrylic paint, paint the top of bottle caps solid black. Paint red wings on either side of the cap, leaving black parts on either end of the cap for the head and bottom of the bug. You can paint black dots on the red wings using a small brush or toothpick, and white eyes on the black portion at the edge of the cap to create a ladybug face. Allow the paint to dry in between each addition.

    Pin

    • Make a brooch out of bottle caps. Use small pliers to bend edges flat on your bottle cap. Use a quarter to measure a photo to place inside of the cap. Glue the photo to the cap, and glue a brooch pin to the back of the cap. Decorate around the photo with glitter glue or paint. Paint on sealer or resin to protect your photo, and allow it to dry thoroughly.
