A Buying Guide for Steam Irons
A steam iron is a device that applies a small amount of hot steam to clothes during the ironing process, thus removing creases more quickly. Steam irons offer a wide variety of features and controls. When looking for a steam iron, check to see that the iron's controls are easy to read and that the iron is comfortable to use when you hold it. Does this Spark an idea?

Iron Options
-
Decide on the type of steam iron you want to purchase. For example, you can choose a regular steam iron or a more complex iron called a steam generator. A steam generator allows you to apply a constant flow of high-pressure steam to your clothes when you iron them. The high-pressure steam makes the ironing process even faster and easily takes out wrinkles even in dry clothing items.
Water Reservoir
-
Because steam irons depend heavily on water, select a water reservoir that meets your needs. For example, look for a steam iron with a water reservoir that is transparent so you can keep an eye on the water level during ironing. Note that some irons come with a big water chamber beneath the handle while others have reservoirs shaped like a small vertical tube. In addition, look for steam irons that have a removable water reservoir, which makes it easier to avoid dripping water accidentally on your clothing when refilling the container. Some irons with non-removable reservoirs also come with a cover for the water fill-hole.

Steam Burst and Surface Options
-
Look for steam irons that feature a burst-of-steam button, which gives your linen an extra blast of steam to help eradicate stubborn wrinkles. Not only does this feature remove wrinkles but also it can be helpful for flushing mineral deposits from your iron's vents. This feature is especially useful if you often iron natural fibers such as linen or heavy fibers including denim. In addition, note that your desired steam iron likely has either a nonstick surface made of either aluminum or stainless steel. Both work comparably when you iron with steam.
Other Features
-
Check to see if your desired steam iron has a gauge that allows you control the amount of steam the device produces or even shut the steam off. An anti-drip feature will keep your iron's water from dripping when a low-steam setting is selected. In addition, some irons come with an automatic shutoff feature that turns the iron off if you leave the iron idle for a period of time. Search for irons that have a temperature control. Some steam irons are available in a cordless model that is easier to move around.
