Create a craft that resembles a dolphin diving in water.

Dolphins are famed for being fun-loving, friendly aquatic creatures. Their temperament, grace and ability to perform tricks often make these animals a favorite among children and adults alike. If you love dolphins, or if you're teaching a lesson about them, consider using arts and crafts activities to make your own renditions of these animals.

  1. Diving Dolphin

    • Use a shoe box to create a diving dolphin scene. Lay a shoe box on its side and cut a slit in the top of it, toward the back. Wrap the shoe box with blue construction paper to represent the ocean, then cut through the construction paper to open up the previously cut slit. Cut a piece of brown construction paper and glue it to the bottom of the front of the shoe box, creating a sandy ocean bottom. Cut green paper into sea grass shapes and glue them to the box, as well. Print out or draw an image of a dolphin, cut it out and glue it to the top of a craft stick. Insert the bottom of the craft stick into the slit at the top of the box and move it back and forth, making it look as if the dolphin is diving into and out of the water.

    Paper Towel Tube Dolphin

    • A paper towel tube serves as the basis for this dolphin craft. Stuff an empty paper towel roll with newspaper and paint it gray. From gray construction paper, cut out a dorsal fin, a tail and a triangle shape. Glue the dorsal fin and tail in their respective spots on the paper towel tube. Roll the triangle into a cone and glue it to the front of the tube, creating a pointed nose for the dolphin. Attach a googly eye to either side of the front of the tube to complete the craft.

    Mobile

    • Make a dolphin mobile to decorate your home or classroom with. Cover a wire hanger with blue fabric to make it more appealing. Print and cut out dolphin templates and color them gray, or print them out directly on gray construction paper. Punch a hole in the top of the dolphins and string a length of filament through the holes. Tie the filament to the wire hanger, with each piece of filament at a different height so that each dolphin hangs at a different height, giving the mobile more interest. If you'd like, cut out images of sea grass or waves and attach them to the hanger in the same manner as the dolphins.

    Dolphin Picture

    • Create a picture that depicts dolphins swimming in the ocean. Use watercolor paints to create the look of an ocean on a piece of white paper. Cover the bottom of the paper with glue and sprinkle sand over it. Cut sea plant shapes from green crepe paper streamers and glue them to the underwater scene, then attach pieces of seashell shaped confetti to the picture, as well. Draw images of dolphins on gray craft foam or construction paper and attach them to the picture to give it its finishing touch.
