Traveler's Packing List for Las Vegas
Whether you prefer a night at the gaming tables or the restaurant tables, you will find plenty of both in Las Vegas. As you pack your luggage for your tip to "Sin City," keep in mind some details to make the most of your vacation to this desert gambling mecca.
-
Clothing
-
Temperatures regularly exceed 100 degrees F in the summer, so plan accordingly. All but the swankiest restaurants require only casual dress, so you should be good with short-sleeve shirts and shorts in most instances. Winters in Las Vegas are relatively mild, but lows can dip into the 40s at night. Bring a jacket and plan to wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants during the day. Bring hiking boots to traverse the rocky desert landscape if you plan to explore such local natural sites as Red Rock Canyon or Valley of Fire
Toiletries and Miscellaneous
-
Sunscreen is a must in Las Vegas, where cloudy days are few and far between. Bring some aloe, too, in case you get burned. Don't worry if you forget to bring over-the-counter medications, as major drugstores such as Walgreen's and CVS/Pharmacy can be found on the Strip and on historic Fremont Street. Hotel gift shops carry most of the necessities, if at often higher prices.
-
Bankroll
-
The first rule of gambling in Las Vegas is to leave the ATM card at home. Take what you are willing to risk in the casinos with you and do not withdraw any money from your account if you hit a slump. One trick to making your bankroll last is to divide the money you want to gamble with into the number of days of your trip. Put these even stacks into separate envelopes and mark them with the days of your vacation. Seal the envelopes before you leave, and only open them on the appropriate day.
Considerations
-
Check with your hotel ahead of time to find out if it provides bathroom items such as hair dryers. If not, bring your own. If you use a shuttle bus service to travel to your hotel from the airport, the usual tip is a buck per bag. McCarran International Airport is busiest in the morning. If your flight leaves in the morning, avoid taking the maximum carry-on items to save time in getting through the line.
