Ramen noodles can be used for much more than cheap dinner for a college student. You can use ramen noodles to make creative pasta dishes, with both meat and vegetarian options. Mix with an assortment of vegetables to make soup or salad. Ramen noodles can even be used to create delicious desserts. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Egg Drop Soup

    • To make egg drop soup, you will need 2 cups of water, 2 eggs (beaten), ¼ cup diced onion, ¼ cup diced celery, ¼ cup green bell pepper and 1 package of chicken ramen noodles. Bring the water to a boil and then add the eggs, vegetables and seasoning. Cook until the eggs are done, stirring constantly. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes before adding the noodles and cooking until the noodles are tender.

    Creamy Mushroom Soup

    • The ingredients for this soup are 1 package of any flavor ramen noodles, 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms and ¼ cup diced onion. Cook the noodles according to the directions on the package, without adding the seasoning. Make the soup as per the can's directions. When both are done, mix the noodles and soup together. Add the onion and mushrooms and simmer for 5 to 6 minutes. If necessary, season with salt and pepper.

    Pasta Salad

    • To enjoy this pasta salad, you need 1 package any flavor ramen noodles, ½ cup mayonnaise, 1 tbsp. mustard, 1 ½ tsp. honey, 1 chopped celery stalk, ½ cup chopped black olives, 1 medium chopped carrot, ¼ cup cubed cheddar cheese and two chopped hard-boiled eggs. Cook the noodles according to the package directions. Mix the mayonnaise, mustard and honey with ½ of the seasoning packet. Throw out the rest of the seasoning. Add the noodles, vegetables, cheese and eggs to the seasoning mixture and serve.

    Chicken Curry

    • This curry recipe requires two boneless, skinless chicken breasts, ¼ cup butter, ¼ cup flour, ½ tsp. curry powder, 2 cups milk, two packages chicken ramen noodles and ½ cup peas. Brown the chicken until done and set aside. Use a small saucepan to melt the butter. Add in the flour, curry powder and 1 seasoning packet. Cook on low, stirring consistently, until mix is smooth and bubbly. Add the milk and bring to a boil, stirring for 1 minute. Add the chicken and peas and allow to simmer on low. While the curry is simmering, cook the noodles, following the directions on the package. Top the drained noodles with the chicken and sauce.

    Ramen Haystacks

    • This delicious dessert requires 2 cups butterscotch chips, 1 tbsp. butter, 1 tbsp. milk and 1 package of ramen noodles, any flavor. Crumble the ramen noodles and throw away the seasoning packet. Heat the butterscotch, butter and milk over low heat in a saucepan until the chips are melted. Stir the noodles into the mixture until fully coated. Put spoonfuls onto wax paper and refrigerate. Once the haystacks are cool, they are ready to eat.
